It was our long-treasured dream to mold prolific eye care professionals for the growing demands of the health sector. According to WHO, “ India required around two lakhs optometrists by the end of the year 2020” therefore, we come up with the best opportunity for students who wish to make a great pace in optometry. Malabar Institute of Optometry is our educational division of Malabar Eye Hospital. We have opened our branches across Kerala in Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur. A shining career awaits an optometrist in clinics and hospitals. Besides, if they wish they could begin independent practice. The quality of education surpasses all existing standards with our chosen professional teachers. We are proud to be a great contributor to eye care professionals in Kerala.

How often should I need to test my eyes?

As per the American Optometric Association grown-ups who use glasses or contact lenses and adults who are over 60 years should visit their eye care specialist every year or as advised by the doctor. If the person doesn’t need any eyesight correction, then a person between 18 and 60 years should visit the doctor twice a year.

What is Cataract?

In the normal eye, the lens inside is fair and transparent, but when Cataract occurs it becomes cloudy and opaque. So the light is not centered on the retina through the lens which leads to blurring of vision. Surgery is the only method to remove Cataract.

Is it possible to transplant the eye?

No. Currently, there is no method to transplant a whole eye. However, corneas have been successfully transplanted for several years.

Is there any complications related to Contact Lenses wear?

Unnecessary wear of Contact Lenses, especially overnight wear, and poor hygiene is connected with most of the safety concerns. Never neglect any redness, itching, watering if you are wearing Contact Lens and you must ask advice from the ophthalmologist.
Some complications of Contact Lens are Giant papillary conjunctivitis-allergic, Superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis-dry Eye, Corneal abrasion, Corneal ulcer – keratitis, etc. These are not common and can be simply avoided with proper treatment and care of your Lenses.

What causes myopia?

Myopia is caused by a blend of environmental factors and genetics. Researches show that if we can move the focal point in front of the mid-peripheral retina we can reduce the risk of myopia. The increased use of mobile and computers, as well as less time outdoors, is probably a reason for Myopia.
